Southern European School of Physics

by admin last modified 2009-11-24 16:25

The southern European School of Physics was originally aimed at promoting Physics in the Southern countries of Europe, which had less potential in Physics (for a history of the school see the article by E. Lillethun and A. Suzor-Weiner in the issue of Europhysics News 35/1 2004 dedicated to the IGPD). The school aims at presenting the fundamental and practical aspects of applications of physics.

In line with the philosophy of its initiator (Prof. van Regemorter), over the past few years the aims has been to cross borders and extend the school "From Southern Europe to the south of Europe".

In addition to its initial mission, it now also aims at promoting contacts between Southern European countries and countries South of Europe by encouraging students originating from these countries to attend the School.

Previous schools:

  • “Dynamical Processes in Molecular Physics”, Madrid- Spain , 1991 (organisers : G. Delgado – Barrio)

  • “Lasers”, Heraklion – Greece , 1995 (organiser : S. Fotakis)

  • “Solar Cells”, Perticci – Italy , 1998 (organiser : I. Soloman)

  • “Medical Physics”, Algarve – Portugal , 2001 (organiser : M. Abreu)

  • Physics of the Environment”, Cairo-Egypt, 2005 (organiser: Prof. M. Abdel-Harith)

Applications are strongly encouraged for the next Southern European School of Physics.
